The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) today held a transformative training session for municipal and district officials in Rukungiri Municipality, focusing on the Bureau’s newly launched E-Dissemination Channels—digital platforms designed to improve access to timely, reliable statistical data at both national and parish levels.
This training is part of UBOS’s nationwide digital literacy campaign aimed at strengthening data usage in governance and development planning. Through this initiative, UBOS is equipping local leaders with the tools needed to harness data for informed decision-making, effective budgeting, and enhanced public service delivery.
Speaking during the engagement, UBOS representative Bob Tumushiime emphasized the value of these new platforms in making critical statistics—such as those from the recently released National Population and Housing Census—more accessible and usable.
“The parish-level data is already available to the public,” Tumushiime noted. “With these new E-Dissemination Channels, local governments can quickly retrieve key indicators for planning and monitoring development initiatives.”
He also outlined UBOS’s core functions, including producing high-quality central statistics, standardizing data collection and reporting, providing training to data users, and collaborating with partners to enhance Uganda’s National Statistical System (NSS).
Tumushiime encouraged officials to actively use the available resources and reach out for data requests through UBOS’s website or by email via ubos@ubos.org or dissemination@ubos.org.
The session was officially closed by His Worship Makuru Charles, Mayor of Rukungiri Municipality, who commended UBOS for improving transparency and public access to data.
“In my 30 years of public service, I have never seen UBOS data this easily accessible,” Mayor Makuru remarked. “This is a milestone in promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen empowerment.”
