Residents of Bwambara Sub-county in Rukungiri District have raised concerns over the persistent lack of basic services in their area, despite actively participating in electoral processes. The concerns came to light during the official launch of National Resistance Movement (NRM) campaigns for Rukungiri District Woman MP seat aspirant, Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo.

Speaking at the event, Musiimenta Ismael, a resident of Garuka, highlighted several pressing challenges, including severe water scarcity, dilapidated roads, poor quality education, and frequent invasions by wild animals from Queen Elizabeth National Park. He lamented that although they vote for leaders, they see little change in their living conditions. Despite this, he expressed hope that Hon. Mary Paula would bring balanced representation to ensure that the people of Bwambara also benefit from good leadership.

Tumwebaze Wilson, another resident, echoed similar concerns, emphasizing the dire water situation in Garuka where locals are forced to share dirty water sources with both wild and domestic animals. He said many leaders have made promises in the past, but little has been done. However, he remains optimistic, citing Hon. Mary Paula’s track record in Rubabo.

In her address, Hon. Turyahikayo pledged total commitment to represent the people of Bwambara in Parliament if elected. She acknowledged the unique challenges facing the sub-county, including water shortages, lack of a government vocational school, poor roads and bridges, and continued wildlife invasions. She vowed to advocate for the fencing of Queen Elizabeth National Park to protect communities from wild animals and to lobby for improved health and education services.

Drawing from her previous experience as a Member of Parliament, Hon. Turyahikayo promised to regularly consult the people of Bwambara and ensure their voices are heard in national decision-making processes.
