Police in Mbarara City South Division are investigating two private security guards attached to LEGIT Security Company Ltd, Ibanda, following a shooting incident that left a businessman critically injured.

According to Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson SP Samson Kasasira, the suspects — Nabimanya Marvin, a 17-year-old male juvenile, and Amutuhaire Samuel, 22 — are accused of attempted murder by shooting. The victim, 32-year-old Brian Barigye, a businessman and resident of Karugangama Cell, Katete Ward, Mbarara City South Division, was shot on Easter Monday, April 20, 2025, at around 10:30 p.m. as he attempted to close his business premises.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Barigye and others were at the business when the two security guards, with one armed, approached suspiciously. When questioned about their presence at that hour, the suspects reportedly became hostile. Nabimanya Marvin allegedly cocked his gun and fired, seriously injuring Barigye in the back. The bullet exited through the lower part of his stomach, causing severe injuries.

The shooting caused panic among nearby customers, who raised an alarm. The two suspects fled the scene, leaving behind a security company uniform cap. Barigye’s father, Professor Godfrey Barigye, was alerted and rushed his son to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where he remains admitted in critical condition.

On April 22, 2025, police apprehended the suspects. The firearm used — gun No. UG.PSO 564211869-16588 — loaded with three rounds of live ammunition, was recovered from Nabimanya Marvin’s residence.

SP Kasasira confirmed that the case file has been forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for advice and prosecution. Meanwhile, Professor Barigye is calling for additional charges against the suspects, including criminal trespass and misuse of a firearm by a juvenile.

Barigye Brian remains under intensive medical care at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.
