Police in Kisoro District are investigating two separate fatal road incidents that occurred in the early hours of April 30, 2026, leaving one person dead, another injured, and an unidentified pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run.
According to the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, the first crash happened at around 12:50 a.m. at Mutolere along the Mutolere Hospital road. The accident involved two motorcycles: a red Bajaj Boxer (registration number UMA 623HL) and a blue Yamaha YBR (registration number UDY 197D).
It is alleged that the Yamaha motorcycle, which was being ridden from Kisoro Town towards Mutolere Hospital, collided head-on with the Bajaj Boxer ridden by 30-year-old Rukundo Justus, a resident of Kagorogoro Village in Muhindura Parish, Kanaba Sub-county. Rukundo died on the spot, while the other rider, identified as Hakizimana Martin, sustained injuries and was rushed to Mutolere Hospital for treatment.
Traffic police officers visited and documented the scene, and the deceased’s body was transported to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. The two motorcycles involved in the crash have since been parked at Kisoro Central Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.
In a related incident, police also reported a fatal hit-and-run accident involving an unidentified male adult pedestrian. The incident is believed to have occurred at an unknown time on the same day at Shozi Village along the Kabale–Kisoro Highway.
Police responded to the scene and conveyed the body to Kisoro Hospital mortuary. Authorities are now appealing to members of the public who may have lost a relative to visit the facility and help identify the deceased so that burial arrangements can be made.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
