Nyabushenyi sub-county councillors and Chairperson in Kajara County, Ntungamo District, have today officially begun their duties after receiving their office tools and taking oath, in a function that was held at the sub-county headquarters and officiated by Kiiza Fedelis, the Chief Administrative Officer Ntungamo, and Honest Baguma, the Electoral Commission Returning Officer Ntungamo.

Kiiza Fedelis began by training and sensitizing the newly elected councillors about the laws and ways through which councils will be conducted. He urged the sworn-in leaders to effectively begin exercising their duties by working together as one team and always consulting their district councillors and technical officials from the district.

He, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the parish chiefs who failed to attend the day’s function, noting that this reveals failure to perform their duties. Kiiza summoned the Nyabushenyi Sub-county parish chiefs to present themselves by 8:00 am tomorrow morning in his office at the district, stressing that this usually interferes with implementation of government programmes.

Yoram Bashija, who has been the LC3 Chairperson for Nyabushenyi Sub-county since its creation in 2018 when Nyabushenyi was divided from Nyabihoko Sub-county, highlighted how they have managed to transform their community for the last 8 years.

He further revealed how the sub-county is looking forward to improving health services at their Health Centre II, improving road networks, and ensuring that other government programmes are fully implemented.

Elected Nyabushenyi Sub-county Speaker Francis Niwomugizi Faraho Rwaka pledged to strengthen unity and implementation of council duties presented by councillors since he has retained the same position he held in the previous council. Francis noted that there is a need to train the new councillors who have joined them, noting that of the 16 councillors that make up Nyabushenyi Sub-county Council, only 4 retained their seats.

Francis will be helped by Julius Nareeba as his deputy.

Nyabushenyi Sub-county district councillors Hon. Amon Mugumya and Christine Tuyamuzara revealed the need for the district to take care of some roads that the sub-county has been renovating, citing that the sub-county’s road funds are too insufficient to manage and complete all the roads. They also highlighted the need to upgrade their Health Centre II to the level of Health Centre III and transform Nyakisa Secondary School into a Seed Secondary School within their sub-county.

During this swearing-in ceremony, Yoram Bashija appointed Phiona Tayebwa as his Vice LC3 Chairperson, Hon. Denis Centenary as Secretary for Education, Hon. Ronnet Turyasingura as Secretary for Finance, and Hon. Resty Kobusingye as Secretary for Health.
