Police in Kanungu district are investigating the accident that happened today morning at Kiruruma bridge which connects Nyakinoni and Kihiihi sub-counties on the Kanungu-Ishasha road.
The accident which occurred around 6:00 AM, involved a Toyota fielder UBJ 660N, with two yet-to-be-identified occupants, jumped off the road and rammed into the river.
Speaking with our reporter, Lozious Niwagaba an eyewitness from the same area attributed the accident to overspeeding after the driver failed to negotiate a corner towards the bridge.
He said, that the driver failed to realize that the road is still under construction and the beam guardrails have not yet been installed.
The victims were rushed to Kihiihi Health IV and by the time of filing this sor, police were yet to comment on the matter.
78.5 km Kanungu-Ishasha road project was contracted to China Henan International Cooperation Group Co.Ltd in 2018 with funds from the world bank, and the project is now at 72.6%.
