The local police in Rukungiri have apprehended two individuals in connection with the tragic murder of 5-year-old Ivan Akampwera, a student at Ruhonwa God’s Mercy Nursery School and resident of Ruhonwa Cell, Katonya Parish, Nyakishenyi Sub County, Rukungiri District.
The suspects, identified as Akampurira Lominate, a 16-year-old female, and Judith Katushabe, a 26-year-old female, both reside at the aforementioned address.
According to preliminary investigations, on March 17, 2024, around 6:00 PM, Arinda Brenda encountered Akampurira Lominate and her younger brother, Akampwera Ivan (deceased), as they were engaged in conversation while walking home. Akampwera Ivan was carrying a water bottle, while Akampurira Lominate carried a yellow jerry can and a machete. After the exchange, they proceeded on their way.
Later that evening, around 6:30 PM, Atuhaire Susan, along with Christine and Taremwa, discovered Akampwera Ivan’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood along the same path they were using to fetch water from Mwibare Water Spring. They promptly informed other community members, who then notified the authorities.
The crime scene was promptly secured, examined, and documented. Statements were collected from relevant witnesses, and the two suspects were taken into custody for further questioning. Meanwhile, the deceased’s body was transported to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing.
