Two individuals have been apprehended by the police in Mitooma District on suspicion of murder by strangulation.
The incident occurred during the night of 09/03/2024 in Kabira village, Nyakizinga sub-county, Mitooma District.
Confirming the incident, Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi police, identified the suspects as Yonasani Tumwesigye, aged 46, an army officer, and Esau Tumuramye, aged 24, both residing in Kabira Village, Kikani Parish, Nyakizinga Sub-county, Mitooma District.
Tumusiime also named the deceased as Mpeka Naphtali, aged 52, a resident of the aforementioned address.
It is alleged that on 08/03/2024, the deceased sold a portion of his land for 230,000 and later in the evening, went drinking with the two suspects at a nearby trading center.
Fred Aryatuha, aged 42, the GISO of Nyakizinga Sub-county, stated that the three individuals left for home around 11:00 PM, and on the way, the deceased took a shortcut while the two suspects conspired to retrieve the balance of the money from him.
Ultimately, the two suspects confronted him at his home, where he was alone, engaged in a physical altercation, and subsequently strangled him, leaving his body approximately four meters from the doorway.
The body was transported to Kitagata Hospital in Sheema District for postmortem examination as investigations continue.
