A fatal road traffic accident has claimed the life of a 24-year-old man in Hakagorogoro village, Muko Sub-county, along the Kabale-Kisoro highway in Rubanda district.

According to police, the tragic incident occurred at around midday when a FAW truck, registration number UBK 088W/UBK 441X, reportedly failed to negotiate a corner and collided with an oncoming motorcycle. The motorcyclist, identified as Bruno Owomugisha, a resident of Muziku in Bufundi Sub-county, died on the spot.

The motorcycle, a red Bajaj Boxer registration UFA 102K, was carrying one passenger, Augustin Tumwesigye, 30, of Bugara village, also in Bufundi Sub-county. He sustained injuries and was rushed for medical attention.

Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the incident, stating that police visited and documented the scene. The deceased’s body was taken to Muko Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.

Both the truck and motorcycle were towed and are currently held at Rubanda Police Station pending inspection, as investigations continue.

Authorities urge all road users, especially along hilly and winding routes like the Kabale-Kisoro road, to exercise extra caution to prevent further loss of life.
