A fatal road accident has claimed the life of a six-year-old pupil in Kabale District. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, June 5, 2025, at around 5:30 PM at Burambira along the Kabale–Kisoro road.
According to police reports, a white Toyota Premio with registration number UBE 642E, driven by an unidentified person who is currently on the run, knocked and killed a young girl identified as Arinitwe Favor. The deceased was a Primary One pupil at Progressive Primary School in Rwakaraba.
Eyewitnesses allege that the vehicle, which was heading from Kabale towards Kisoro, struck the child as she attempted to cross the road from left to right shortly after the police traffic camera at Burambira. Reports suggest that the driver tried to dodge the child, but she suddenly increased her pace, leading to a collision. The vehicle then lost control and veered off the road.
Police visited the scene, documented the incident, and towed the car to the station. A sketch plan of the scene was drawn, and investigations are underway to identify and arrest the fleeing driver.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Maate Elly confirmed the incident and stated that the victim’s body was returned to the parents’ home as arrangements for a postmortem examination are being finalized.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
