Police in Rwampara District are currently detaining two individuals in connection with the murder and disposal of the body of Ssenyondo Mariamungu, a 14-year-old male juvenile from the Muganda tribe. Ssenyondo resided in Kikonkoma 1 cell, Kikonkoma ward, Kabura Town Council in Rwampara District.

The incident reportedly took place on January 1, 2024, when eight family members, including Nalongo Korubaro, the step-grandmother of the deceased, accused him of stealing clothes and phones belonging to some of the suspects. In an attempt to force a confession, they physically assaulted him until he disclosed the location where he had hidden the stolen items. The suspects, along with the victim, went to Nyeihanga Town, recovered the stolen property, and returned home to Kikonkoma village at Nalongo Korubaro’s residence. Tragically, Ssenyondo was tortured to death during this ordeal.

On January 3, 2024, around midnight, the suspects, in the company of Mweteise Micheal and Arinaitwe Patrick, hired a vehicle owned by Agaba Owen. They transported the deceased’s body to Mbarara City along the Mbarara-Masha Road and dumped it into River Rwizi.

Kobusingye Evalyne, a 38-year-old female resident of Kicwamba in Mbarara City South and the mother of the deceased, reported the incident to the police after discovering her son was missing.

This led to the arrest of Mweteise Michael, Arinaitwe Patrick, and Agaba Owen. During interrogation, the suspects provided details of the incident and identified all those involved. A search for the deceased’s body commenced, and it was successfully retrieved from River Rwizi in Mbarara City around 5:00 PM yesterday, in a decomposed state.

It is noteworthy that all the individuals implicated in this tragic incident are close relatives of the deceased, who had been raised by them since childhood after his mother separated from his father in Mityana District.
