A serious road accident involving two motorcycles has claimed the life of a 43-year-old businessman in Rukungiri district. The fatal incident occurred on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at around 3:51 PM at Katogo Cell, Nyamayenje Ward, Eastern Division, along the Rukungiri–Ntungamo Road.

According to police, the accident involved two Bajaj Boxer motorcycles: registration number UGE 632B, red in color, ridden by Atamba Praise, and UFQ 826A, also red, ridden by the late Niwabine Emmanuel.

Preliminary findings indicate that Niwabine, a resident of Bugarama Cell, Kahoko Parish in Nyakagyeme Sub County, had just refueled his motorcycle at Tuja Petrol Station. He reportedly entered the main road abruptly, heading toward Rukungiri town, and collided head-on with Atamba Praise, who was riding from Rukungiri town toward Kebisoni.

Both riders sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Nyakibale Hospital, where Niwabine Emmanuel was later pronounced dead. Atamba Praise, a resident of Kanyamutwe Cell in Kebisoni Town Council, is still undergoing treatment at an undisclosed health facility.

Police responded promptly to the scene, drafted a sketch plan, and recorded statements from witnesses. CCTV footage from the nearby Tuja Petrol Station captured the incident, and efforts are underway to retrieve it for further analysis. The body of the deceased was taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre mortuary, where a postmortem was conducted.

According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, the suspected cause of the accident is the deceased’s sudden entry onto the road without checking for oncoming traffic. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
