Authorities in Kanungu are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic passing of a two-year-old boy named Akampereza, son of Gerard Akampereza, a resident of Kyomuringa cell in Nyarutojo parish, Kambuga sub-county, Kanungu district.
According to reports, the young child, who had been dealing with health issues since birth, fell ill again in March. He was taken to Kambuga Hospital by his stepmother, Ahurira Prossy, who was advised that the child required surgery.
Concern arose in the community when the child was no longer seen at home. Upon investigation by the local area chairman, Emmanuel Mugisha, the father admitted to the child’s demise and revealed that he had buried him himself, which raised suspicions due to the uncommon nature of the burial.
Following this revelation, both parents, the father, and the stepmother were taken into custody by the police.
During a visit to the scene of the incident, investigators discovered fresh soil behind the toilet, indicating a possible burial site.
Pending a court order, authorities plan to conduct an exhumation and postmortem examination to further understand the circumstances of the child’s death.
The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing.
