Former Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon John Patrick Amaama, commended Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe, the 6th Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, for his significant achievements during his first year in office.

Amaama Mbabazi praised Bishop Asiimwe’s efforts in revitalizing Church of Uganda schools within the North Kigezi Diocese and various other accomplishments. These remarks were delivered during an event marking the first anniversary of Bishop Asiimwe’s episcopal tenure, held at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano in Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality.

Amaama Mbabazi conveyed a message from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who contributed 90 million Ugandan shillings towards the cause, while Amaama Mbabazi and his family contributed an additional 10 million.

Furthermore, Amaama Mbabazi gifted a cow valued at 10 million shillings to Bishop Asiimwe. He encouraged Christians across the diocese to collaborate closely with their bishop to foster further development, particularly emphasizing the importance of completing the cathedral, for which Bishop Asiimwe has shown exceptional dedication.

Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, Minister of Security, also extended congratulations to Bishop Asiimwe on his first anniversary and pledged support for the cathedral’s construction, contributing 10 million shillings himself. Other political leaders, including members of parliament, made significant contributions during the event.

Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni, Bishop of West Ankole Diocese, urged unity among Christians and clergy in North Kigezi, emphasizing the necessity of collaboration with Bishop Asiimwe for developmental progress, particularly highlighting the ongoing cathedral construction.

Bishop Asiimwe expressed gratitude for the support received, including over 360 million shillings raised, which will facilitate the continuation of the cathedral’s construction, initiated by the late Bishop Benon Magezi. He outlined their focus for the coming year, centered on the cathedral’s construction, under the theme: “Come let us build the house of the Lord” (Haggai 1:1-8).

The event was attended by over six bishops, all members of parliament from Rukungiri District, Dr. Johnson Byabasheija, Commissioner of Prisons, members of the business community, and other dignitaries.
