A violent incident at Kyijanga Trading Centre has led to the death of a 47-year-old man, Bengenaki Swaleh. On Sunday, July 28, 2024, Swaleh was allegedly assaulted by a 40-year-old mechanic, Byomuhangi Ivan, also known as Katama.
The assault occurred after Katama suspected Swaleh of stealing thirty thousand shillings (UGX) from his pocket.
According to reports, Katama later recovered the money from his wife and attempted to make amends by apologizing to Swaleh, buying him a bottle of soda and a stick of roasted meat. Despite these gestures, Swaleh’s condition deteriorated after being treated at a local drug shop.
On July 31, 2024, his health worsened significantly, and he passed away in the early hours of August 1, 2024. The police have since conducted a thorough investigation, documenting the crime scene, recording witness statements, and drawing a sketch plan of the incident.
Katama has been arrested and is currently in custody.
The body of Swaleh has been examined at Kanungu Health Center IV and has been handed over to his relatives for a decent burial.
The case is ongoing as authorities continue their investigation into this tragic event.
