Police in Ibanda district have registered a case of murder by stabbing involving Gumisiriza Amos, a male adult peasant and resident of Rushambya Cell, Kashozi Parish, Ishongororo Sub-county, Ibanda. He was stabbed to death with a sharp object by his wife, Atuhaire Justin, on 30/07/2024 at around 17:00.
Atuhaire Justin attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by locals who beat her severely. She was later rescued by the police and rushed to Ishongororo HC IV for treatment but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
It is alleged that Atuhaire Justin had gone to Saudi Arabia for work and sent money home to her husband, Gumisiriza Amos, for development purposes. Upon her recent return, she discovered that her husband had used the money to marry another woman, angered her. In a fit of rage, she stabbed him in the neck with a sharp object, leading to his death.
Both bodies are currently at Ishongororo HC IV pending postmortem examinations.
The police have not yet made any arrests related to the mob action but are continuing their inquiries into the matter.
