Police in Kabale are currently investigating a tragic accident that resulted in the untimely death of an individual.
The incident occurred in Mwirangizo Cell, Kitumba Sub County, Kabale District. According to the police report, the accident involved a white Fuso Fighter truck with the registration UBE225K, which was driven by Byamukama James, a 50-year-old resident of Lower Bugongi, Northern Division, Kabale Municipality, and a member of the Mukiga ethnic group. Byamukama James is currently under police custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
The accident also included a male pedestrian named Twebembere Pius, aged 39, who is also of Mukiga ethnicity and hails from Kasinde Cell, Kitumba Sub County, Kabale District. The police response to the incident was led by ASP Mucunguz, the Officer in Charge of Traffic, who was accompanied by a team of officers.
The body of the victim has been located and moved to the mortuary at Kabale Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination. Additionally, the motor vehicle implicated in the accident has been recovered and is presently stationed at the Kabale Central Police Station, awaiting inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
Based on the preliminary findings of the police, it is alleged that the deceased had been acting as a “turn man” for the same motor vehicle, although he was not on duty at the time of the accident.
When he noticed the approaching vehicle, he attempted to jump onto the back of it. Unfortunately, during this attempt, he missed and ended up falling beneath the vehicle. Tragically, the vehicle subsequently ran over him, resulting in his immediate and unfortunate demise.
