Police in Rukiga are investigating the tragic death of Ambrose Ndyomugabe, a 35-year-old peasant from Kakiiri Village, Kitanga Parish, Kashambya Sub-county. The incident occurred on the night of 2nd November 2024, around 11:00 PM, when Ndyomugabe was discovered lying along a footpath in a pool of blood by a passerby identified as Tumuhimbise, who is also a cousin of the deceased.
According to reports, Ndyomugabe was last seen at a bar in Kashumuluzo Trading Centre, where he had gone to drink, a common habit of his. Witnesses noted that he was intoxicated and involved in a commotion, during which one suspect allegedly assaulted him with a stick. Residents intervened and stopped the assault, but Ndyomugabe was later seen with the suspects before he went missing.
The next morning, Turyasingura Bosco, the deceased’s brother and the person who reported the incident, confirmed the tragic news and alerted local authorities. Police from Rukiga CPS responded promptly, processing the scene and recording statements from witnesses. Five suspects were apprehended in connection with the incident to assist with ongoing investigations. The suspects include residents Rugwisa James, Tumukunde Johnson, Bitakaramire Banegura, Byamukama Stephen, and Tukamumpa Sharon.
Ndyomugabe’s body was transported to Mparo Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination before being released to his family for burial.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, assured the public that inquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police remain committed to uncovering the facts and ensuring that justice is served.
