Police in Buhweju District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the mob killing of a 38-year-old man under unclear motives.
The incident occurred on November 3, 2024, in Ntoboro village, Karungu Sub-county, Buhweju District. Marcial Tumusiime, spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Amon Tumwesigye, 38, a resident of the mentioned address.
According to reports, at around 1:00 AM on November 3, 2024, police in Karungu Sub-county received a report about mob violence from Jackson Mujuni, LC1 Chairman of Nyabugando B Cell, Karungu Parish. Mujuni informed the police that unknown individuals had broken into the kitchen of Kamasaza Evangelista, intending to commit a crime.
Tumusiime explained that the suspects encountered Kanyankole Kanzira, a shamba boy, who was sleeping in the kitchen. The suspects attacked Kanzira with pangas, inflicting multiple cuts. Kanzira raised an alarm, drawing the attention of local residents who gathered to help.
In response, the residents formed a mob and assaulted Tumwesigye, leaving him unconscious. Tumusiime confirmed that both the victim, Kanzira, and the alleged assailant, Tumwesigye, were taken to Nsiika Health Centre IV for medical treatment.
