Police in Mitooma District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a three-year-old boy who drowned.

The incident occurred between December 22nd and 23rd, 2024, at an unspecified time in Nyakitoko Village, Mahwizi Parish, Mutara Sub-county, Mitooma District.

Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, which was reported on December 23rd, 2024.

Tumusiime identified the deceased as the three-year-old son of Anitah Nuwasasira, a resident of Nyakabale Village, Mahwizi Parish, Mutara Sub-county, Mitooma District.

According to reports, on December 17th, 2024, Nuwasasira secured a job in Kampala and left her son in the care of someone named Natukunda before traveling to Kampala.

On Sunday, December 22nd, 2024, at around 11:30 a.m., Natukunda reportedly left the child at home with others. When she returned at 4:00 p.m., the boy was missing. Despite searching the area, he could not be found, and the case was reported to the area chairperson.

Tragically, on December 23rd, 2024, the child’s body was discovered on the banks of the Katizi River.

Tumusiime stated that the body was retrieved and taken to Kitagata Hospital in Sheema District, where a postmortem was conducted.
