Kanungu District joined the rest of the country in celebrating the swearing-in of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his seventh term, following the official inauguration held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala.

In line with a directive from the NRM Secretariat, district-wide celebrations were organized across Uganda to mark the occasion. In Kanungu, the main event took place at the district playground, attracting hundreds of residents, political leaders, and supporters from various parts of the district.

Speaking at the function, Kanungu District Returning Officer Mr. Alex Kamukama congratulated President Museveni upon his declaration as winner of the 2026 presidential election. He also thanked the people of Kanungu for their strong support, noting that the President secured over 84 percent of the vote in the district.

Kamukama further revealed that a delegation of forty representatives, including members of the district executive, was selected to attend the main national celebrations at Kololo. He highlighted that Kanungu has registered significant socio-economic transformation over the past four decades, citing improvements in infrastructure and overall livelihoods. He reiterated the NRM government’s commitment to safeguarding these gains as it pursues its vision of achieving middle-income status.

Meanwhile, the District Woman Chairperson for Rutenga Sub-county and Rutenga Town Council, Mrs. Nahurira Mabel, commended the NRM government for advancing women’s empowerment and promoting gender equality across different sectors. She also applauded government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), saying they have contributed to improved household incomes and better living conditions in the district and across the country.
