The Member of Parliament-elect for Kinkizi East and Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Chris Baryomunsi, has officially taken the oath of office during a ceremony held today at Parliament House in Kampala.

Dr. Baryomunsi was accompanied by his wife, Fosca Tumwebaze Baryomunsi, Kanungu Town Council Mayor Godfrey Karabenda, Kanungu Deputy RDC Ahimbisibwe Gad Rugaju, Assistant RDCs Magezi Emmy and Zeefa Mugisha, Commissioner of Lands Augustine Bujaara, among other leaders and supporters.

The swearing-in ceremony marked the official commencement of his new term as Member of Parliament for Kinkizi East Constituency in Kanungu District following the 2026 general elections.

According to Kanungu District Returning Officer David Mukundane, Dr. Baryomunsi won the parliamentary race after garnering 23,830 votes, representing 53 percent of the total votes cast. He defeated his closest rival, Eng. Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo, who secured 20,739 votes, equivalent to 45 percent.

Speaking shortly after taking the oath, Dr. Baryomunsi thanked God for enabling them to reach the swearing-in day in good health. He also expressed gratitude to the people of Kanungu District for entrusting him with the mandate to represent them in Parliament.

He pledged to continue working closely with the government to ensure that unfinished projects are completed and to implement more government programs aimed at improving the livelihoods of residents in Kinkizi East and Kanungu District at large.

Dr. Baryomunsi further called for unity among Ugandans, especially the people of Kanungu and Kinkizi East, emphasizing that cooperation and togetherness are essential for achieving meaningful development.

He is among more than 500 newly elected Members of Parliament scheduled to take the oath of allegiance and oath of office during the three-day swearing-in exercise running from May 13 to May 15, 2026, at Parliament House in Kampala.
