In a significant breakthrough in their ongoing efforts to curb criminal activity, the territorial police in Kabale have apprehended three more members of a notorious gang that had been causing havoc in various parts of Kabale municipality.
The arrests came following diligent police work and cooperation from the local community, who provided crucial information leading to the capture of the suspects.
According to police reports, Turyatunga Ponsius, known as Poshi, was nabbed on Saturday after citizens alerted authorities to his whereabouts in Kekubo cell, Kirigime ward, Southern division. Poshi is believed to have been the ringleader of the gang operating in Kekubo and nearby areas.
Norman Owomugisha, also known as Nyarukwisi, was apprehended yesterday, April 23, in Butobere and surrounding areas, following intelligence gathered by law enforcement.
The third suspect, Didas Mugambajje, alias Romeco, was arrested in Nyakiharo cell, Mwanjari ward, Southern division, after a tip-off from vigilant citizens. Mugambajje was found in possession of a dangerous weapon, a panga, which he allegedly intended to use against arresting officers.
All three suspects are slated to appear in court to face charges once investigations are concluded. They will join others already in custody at Ndorwa prison.
The police have commended the public for their vigilance and cooperation, which have been instrumental in the successful apprehension of these criminals. Authorities have pledged to continue their crackdown on criminal elements until peace and security are fully restored in the region.
