The Electoral Commission office in Kabale District has officially nominated three candidates to contest for the position of LCV Chairperson in the forthcoming elections.
Kabale District Returning Officer Aisha Nansubuga confirmed that the nominated candidates include veteran journalist Stephen Rupiha Habimana Jack, running as an independent candidate with the symbol of a radio; Nzeirwe Denis Ndyomugyenyi, the NRM flag bearer; and Owomugisha Donozio Banga, also an independent candidate with the symbol of a clock.
Rupiha, a well-known media personality, said his campaign will focus on fighting sectarianism and corruption, while prioritizing education and tourism development. He pledged to lobby for improved schools, empower the youth, and promote Kabale’s tourism potential, adding that he will champion the district’s push for city status to create more opportunities and jobs.
Nzeirwe, who previously served as RDC in Kabale, Rukungiri, and Kyakwezi districts, said his campaign will be based on the NRM manifesto with a focus on improving service delivery and constructing durable roads across the district.
Independent candidate Banga called on his fellow contestants to conduct peaceful campaigns, stressing the importance of unity and cooperation throughout the election period. He urged aspirants to avoid hostility and put the interests of the people of Kabale first.
The nomination of the three candidates sets the stage for what is expected to be a competitive race for the district’s top political seat.
