A group of teachers from Mupaka Town Council and Nkuringo Town Council have raised concerns about their children dropping out of school due to the lack of school fees. This issue emerged following the discontinuation of their hard-to-reach allowances, which they had relied on to fund their children’s education.

These concerns were brought to light after Bufumbira North legislator, Hon. Kamara John Nizeyimana, urged teachers in Kisoro District’s town councils to boycott classes in protest of not receiving their hard-to-reach allowances.

Mugabe Mike Amos, the head teacher of Mwumba Primary School in Nkuringo Town Council, expressed distress over the sudden cut in allowances, which has led some teachers to resign. Mugabe voiced his worries about managing the school with an insufficient number of teachers and criticized the town councils for failing to benefit them.

Nsenga Haba John, head teacher of Mabuyemero SDA Primary School in Mupaka Town Council, emphasized that the hard-to-reach allowances were crucial for transportation and supporting their families. He lamented that the cutback is a setback for the entire Busanza area, as many teachers commute from distant places.

Meanwhile, Sunday Julius, head teacher of Gitovu Primary School in Mupaka Town Council, reported that some teachers discovered discrepancies in their recent pay slips, showing the hard-to-reach allowances were still listed despite not being received. He also mentioned that since the establishment of Mupaka Town Council, there has been no noticeable improvement in service delivery, leaving them in the same challenging situation.
