Two individuals have been apprehended in Bushenyi district by the police on charges of orchestrating a demonstration and causing public nuisance.
The arrested individuals are Muzamiru Mpima, a 45-year-old taxi driver residing in Nyabubare, Kizinda town council, and Abas Kabanda, a 36-year-old taxi conductor from Kijumo village, Kabalye Parish, Kakanju sub-county, both in Bushenyi District.
According to Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi police, the incident occurred on 13/11/2023 in Ishaka town.
Allegedly, the protestors, led by Muhammad Lukwago, were protesting against the manager of Tausi Bus company, Gumisiriza Alex, demanding that he leave Ishaka town. They threatened to burn the buses and disrupt Tausi company’s operations in Ishaka.
Tumusiime mentioned that the group, headed by Muhammad Lukwago, set tires on fire before being intercepted by the police and army.
The authorities managed to arrest Muzamiru Mpima and Abas Kabanda, while others in the group managed to escape.
