The territorial police in Rukiga, along with officers from Kajansi police station in Kampala, have arrested Isaac Niwagaba, a 32-year-old Mukiga and professional driver residing in Rwakimuli cell, Bukinda trading center, Bukinda sub-county, Rukiga district.
The arrest occurred on May 18, 2024, at approximately 16:00hrs in Rwakimuli cell, Bukinda trading center. Geoffrey Ongomu, an investigating officer from Kajansi police station in Kampala, had arrived in the district searching for Niwagaba in connection with several cases.
Niwagaba is suspected of involvement in multiple murder cases in Kampala (Kajansi). Allegedly, he and other suspects still at large have been kidnapping and killing young girls using a taxi with registration number UAU 737 W. It is reported that Niwagaba has been involved in four different murders.
The suspect and his accomplices allegedly posed as taxi drivers, luring girls into their vehicle. They would then strangle and suffocate the victims with polythene bags before dumping their bodies in nearby bushes in Kampala. Recently, Niwagaba is said to have masterminded the murder of Nassali Jenina, a resident of Kawuku in Kajansi, and stole her phone. He was arrested while using this phone to communicate with his associates.
On May 18, 2024, a team of detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department teamed up with police officers from Rukiga district, led by the DPC, to mount an operation in Bukinda trading center. They successfully arrested Niwagaba in his room where he had been hiding since returning from Kampala three days prior.
Niwagaba has been handed over to detectives from Kajansi police station under tight security for further investigation. A search of his room yielded valuable and relevant evidence. Inquiries are ongoing.
