Two senior students from St. Charles Lwanga Secondary School in Sheema District have been arrested by police in connection with the authorship of an anonymous letter.
MarcialTumusiimethe greater Bushenyipolice spokesperson identified the two juveniles as, Innocent Mwesigye 16, and Amon Ayebare 17.
Tumusiime said the letter contained a threat of a terrorist attack on their school, as well as two other schools in Kasese District.
He said the students confessed to writing the letter after being interrogated by the authorities.
Their motive for sending the letter was to intimidate the school administration, as they felt unfairly punished for disciplinary issues.
The students are currently detained in Sheema, and a notebook containing the threat has been recovered. The handwriting on the letter will undergo analysis by an expert.
It was discovered during the investigation that the school had previously expelled several students for drug abuse, and the two arrested students had been disciplined for threatening to set fire to the school dormitory.
The police strongly emphasized that making violent threats, including acts of terrorism, is a serious criminal offense, and the students will be prosecuted and potentially sent to a juvenile center.
This incident follows a recent attack by the ADF rebel group on Rubiriha Secondary School in Kampala, where more than 40 students were killed.
The attackers set fire to the boys’ dormitory and shot and killed girls in their dormitory.
They also looted food supplies from the school store and forced some abducted students to transport the stolen items to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
