A tragic incident unfolded in Kameme Cell, Kibimbiri Parish, Kihihi Sub County, Kanungu District, where a 15-year-old pupil, Clinton Birungi of Kyentija Primary School, lost his life after being attacked by a stray elephant.

The fatal encounter occurred in the early hours of Thursday, May 16, 2025, at around 5:00 AM. According to police reports, a mother elephant and its calf strayed from Queen Elizabeth National Park and invaded the home of Kiiza Robert while the family was asleep.

The elephant destroyed the grass-thatched house, prompting panic among the occupants. While most remained still, young Clinton attempted to flee and was fatally struck by the elephant during the chase.

Local police at Kihihi responded promptly, visited the scene, and transported the body to Kihihi Health Centre for postmortem.

It is further reported that the elephants had been roaming the community for nearly a week before this deadly attack. Following the incident, Uganda Wildlife Authority officials managed to drive the animals back into the national park for appropriate management.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
