The National Resistance Movement (NRM) successfully concluded its sub-county structure elections on Friday across Kanungu District, reinforcing the party’s grassroots leadership and paving the way for district-level leadership selections scheduled for next week.

According to Kanungu District NRM Registrar, Mr. Kamukama Alex, the sub-county elections were part of a broader NRM structural roadmap that began at the village and parish levels. Delegates elected at the parish level convened at their respective sub-counties to elect leaders for both mainstream and special organs. The elections were conducted through line standing, the official method sanctioned for this phase of the party’s internal processes.

Mr. Kamukama commended the peaceful conduct of the elections and encouraged unity among all contestants regardless of the outcomes. “Let those who lost work with the winners like brothers and sisters to ensure a smooth journey for our country,” he said, underscoring the importance of cooperation in national development.

Kanungu Municipality Mayor, Mr. Godfrey Karabenda, was elected NRM Sub-County Publicity Secretary. Grateful for the support, he promised to continue working closely with the people, stating, “With God, all things are possible.”

Also elected was Canon Josephine Kasya, former LCV Chairperson of Kanungu, who now chairs the Women’s League at the sub-county level. She expressed gratitude to the community and pledged to utilize her experience to enhance leadership and development within the party.
