On Friday evening, a stray buffalo was fatally shot in a collaborative effort involving the UPDF, Park Rangers, and the local community in Rukoro cell, Cyanika town council in Kisoro District.

Valence Nizeyimana Nguli, the LCV Councilor of Cyanika town council, reported that the buffalo had entered from Mountain Muhabura National Park in the morning, causing damage to community gardens. Despite the community’s attempts to drive it away, their efforts were in vain.

Upon alerting Mgahinga National Park authorities, Rangers and the Army were dispatched to handle the situation. In the process, the buffalo injured a young person, who was promptly taken to a nearby health facility for medical treatment.

The buffalo’s journey extended through three villages: Kinyababa, Kabira, and Rukoro. Nizeyimana stressed the importance of the government recognizing the challenges faced by Cyanika town council and considering it for revenue-sharing benefits. He highlighted that such incidents were not unprecedented in the community.
