The authorities of St. Mathias Nyakishenyi Vocational Secondary School in Nyakishenyi Sub County, Rukungiri District, are actively engaged in fundraising efforts to construct a modern science laboratory with the goal of enhancing the school’s academic performance.

Anaclet Twinomugisha, the deputy head teacher, revealed that the school has scheduled a fundraising event on Sunday, December 3, 2023. The objective is to raise over 200 million to facilitate the construction of a state-of-the-art science laboratory. The esteemed guest of honor for the event is expected to be Hon Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance.

Twinomugisha highlighted the current challenge faced by the school, where a laboratory store is being utilized as a makeshift science laboratory for all science subjects. This makeshift arrangement is believed to be a contributing factor to the school’s subpar performance in science subjects. Despite government efforts to provide science teachers, textbooks, and laboratory equipment, the absence of a modern laboratory for practical sessions remains a significant gap.

The fundraising function is themed “Empowering Minds Through Science for a Bright Future,” aligning with the government of Uganda’s focus on promoting sciences nationwide, as championed by President Museveni.

Lovence Asiimwe, the speaker of Nyakishenyi Sub County and a representative on the school board, emphasized the transformative impact of the proposed laboratory. She called upon individuals passionate about education, as well as leaders from Rukungiri and neighboring districts, to contribute to the fundraising initiative. These contributions are crucial to reaching the targeted funds and, subsequently, the establishment of a much-needed science laboratory that is expected to elevate the school’s performance, particularly in the field of sciences.
