During a general meeting with the school administration, parents voiced their concerns about the lack of electricity and water, insufficient infrastructure, and limited dormitory space to accommodate the growing number of students at St. Joseph’s Rushasha Secondary School.

Parents expressed that their children have been compelled to trek long distances outside the school premises in search of water, which has adversely affected their academic pursuits.

Hon. Musiime Obadiah, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Rujumbura County, emphasized the absence of electricity in Masya parish as a hindrance to development in the area. He advocated for extending electricity to the parish, citing its potential to enhance academic progress by facilitating uninterrupted studying and enabling the adoption of digital technology at the school.

Furthermore, Hon. Obadiah, along with other parents, commended the school for its outstanding performance in the 2023 UCE results and pledged to provide the necessary support for continued academic excellence.

Hon. Mubangizi Godson, the chairperson of LC. 3 of Nyakagyeme Sub County and guest of honor, praised St. Joseph’s Rushasha Secondary School for leading in UCE results among all schools in Nyakagyeme Sub County in 2023. He acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the school’s administration, parents, teachers, and students in upholding academic standards.

Godson assured the school administration, parents, and the Masya parish community that efforts to address the electricity outage issue were underway, urging patience as the matter is being handled by relevant authorities, including Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, the Member of Parliament for Rujumbura County.

Mary Marriet Kemigisha, the head teacher of St. Joseph’s Rushasha Secondary School, expressed gratitude for the school’s exemplary performance in the 2023 UCE results. She credited the achievement to the collective efforts of the school board, parents, teachers, and students. Additionally, she highlighted the significance of the day, which marked the celebration of St. Joseph’s day, the introduction of Advanced level classes at the school, and the acknowledgment of the UCE results.

Marriet disclosed that out of the 178 students who took the UCE examinations the previous year, 38 attained Division one, 51 achieved Division two, 48 secured Division three, and 41 obtained Division four.
