St. Francis Buhunga High School is celebrating an impressive performance in both UCE and UACE results for the academic year 2024.

Fr. Posiano Kwitonda, the chaplain of all primary and secondary schools in Rutooma Parish, who also serves as the chaplain of St. Francis, shared an inspirational message with the students. He described Saint Joseph as a caring figure and urged students to be caring toward their peers and obedient to their teachers, just as St. Joseph was. He commended the students for their faithfulness and self-belief, encouraging them to aim even higher in their academic journey.

Fr. Posiano also praised the school staff for their trustworthiness, which has strengthened parents’ confidence in the institution. He called upon both parents and teachers to be responsible and supportive of each other. However, he strongly condemned the district leadership for failing to support the school for over 41 years, stating that not even a single toilet has been built by the government during this period.

The head teacher of St. Francis Buhunga High School, Mr. Mugisha Julius Kakwara, expressed gratitude to the students for their discipline, which contributed significantly to their success. He noted that this level of excellence had never been achieved in the past 41 years, with the school ranking second in Rukungiri District and the best student scoring 18 points at UACE.

Despite the celebration, Mr. Mugisha highlighted several challenges faced by the school. He pointed out that the institution has never benefited from government support, citing a severe lack of classrooms, staff quarters, and an inadequate number of teachers. He revealed that out of over 40 staff members, only 14 are government-paid, with the rest being paid by parents. He called upon the office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to intervene and provide much-needed support.

Kamugisha Zephulinah, the Chairman of the PTA, expressed appreciation to the staff for their dedication to ensuring students excelled. He applauded the students for their hard work and determination, which contributed to their success. He also thanked parents for entrusting the school with their children and expressed hope for continued excellence in the upcoming academic year.

Asiimwe Tracy, Clerk to the Rukungiri District Council, who represented the CAO as the Chief Guest of Honor, acknowledged the efforts of the staff, parents, Board of Governors, and PTA in supporting the school. She assured the school community that the CAO’s office is ready to provide the necessary support and promised that all the school’s concerns would be presented to the council for action.
