Police in Ntungamo District have arrested a 22-year-old man, Edwin Akandwanaho, in connection with the alleged murder of his father, Anania Kabareebe, 49, following a reported long-standing disagreement over money.

The incident occurred on the night of April 8, 2026, in Mutojo, Rubaare Town Council, Rushenyi County. According to preliminary information, Edwin had reportedly been seeking financial support from his father for an extended period, but his requests were consistently denied, leading to persistent disputes between the two.

Provia K., the wife of the deceased, recounted that she was preparing supper when her son returned home and began arguing with her. Upon hearing the commotion, her husband reportedly left for the LC1 chairperson’s residence to report the domestic disturbance.

It is alleged that on his way back home, Edwin, with the help of an accomplice identified as Boss Kanyindo, ambushed his father. The two reportedly tied him up, leading to his death, and later staged the scene by hanging the body on a barbed wire fence along the roadside.

Provia further noted that the disagreements between father and son were largely related to financial demands, with the son allegedly seeking money for leisure activities, including drinking alcohol in town—requests his father often declined.

Local residents have expressed concern over rising cases of domestic violence within families in Ntungamo District, particularly incidents involving mistreatment of fathers by their children and spouses. Many such cases, they say, go unreported, sometimes resulting in tragic outcomes or family breakdowns.

Police have since detained both Edwin Akandwanaho and his alleged accomplice as investigations continue. The body of the deceased was taken to Itojo General Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

By press time, police had not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident. Burial arrangements were underway, with family members, friends, and relatives gathering to mourn the deceased.
