Police in Kabale are investigating a suspected suicide case following the tragic death of a senior six student at Solberg College, located in Rutoma Cell, Nyabikoni Ward, Central Division, Kabale Municipality.

The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Kiconco Nikita, a resident of the same area and a student at the college.

According to a statement issued by Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Maate Elly, the incident occurred at around noon on Sunday, 20th April 2025, while most students had gone for Easter prayers at Nyabikoni Church of Uganda.

It is alleged that only two students — Kiconco Nikita and Tusiime Alice — remained behind in separate dormitories. Kiconco reportedly told school authorities she was unwell and under medication, which explained her absence from the church service.

Upon their return at around 1:00 PM, students were shocked to find Kiconco’s lifeless body hanging from the roof with a rope tied around her neck. The horrifying discovery prompted an alarm, drawing the attention of the school matron, who then informed the school’s head teacher, Mr. Tusiime Denis, aged 44.

Mr. Tusiime immediately reported the matter to Kabale Central Police Station (CPS).

Police, led by D/IP Barijunaki Samuel, the Acting Officer in Charge of CID at Kabale CPS, swiftly responded to the scene. The area was documented,d and the body was retrieved and taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

A case file of suspected suicide has been opened, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
