Rukungiri district’s new town clerk has assumed office, replacing Mr. Nuwamanya Robert, who has officially handed over to Mr. Tumwesigye Isaiah during a formal ceremony held today at the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) offices in Rukungiri Municipality.
Mr. Tumwesigye, who previously served in the same capacity at Ntungamo Municipal Council, was welcomed by key government officials including the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), and His Worship the Mayor, Mr. Makuru Charles.
In his farewell remarks, outgoing Town Clerk Mr. Nuwamanya highlighted several achievements during his tenure, such as the automation of street parking systems, renovation of the municipal administration block, full disbursement of Parish Development Model funds, and the launch of a municipal magazine showcasing development projects.
The incoming Town Clerk, Mr. Tumwesigye Isaiah, pledged to maintain the momentum set by his predecessor, emphasizing teamwork, effective communication, discipline, and a culture of zero tolerance towards absenteeism and alcohol abuse in the workplace.
Mayor Makuru Charles praised Mr. Nuwamanya’s performance and urged Mr. Tumwesigye to build on that foundation. He highlighted strategic moves like engaging UPDF contractors to avoid VAT-related expenses and warned leaders against seeking cheap popularity or encroaching on government land.
The RDC applauded Mr. Nuwamanya’s service and called upon all stakeholders to cooperate with the new Town Clerk, noting that transfers are a routine part of public service.
The handover ceremony was officially declared closed by the Resident District Commissioner.
