The Diocese of North Kigezi on Sunday officially retired six priests, all who reached the age of 65, in accordance with the Church of Uganda constitution.

Among those retired are notable figures such as Rev. Can Geoffrey Mutabazi, the archdeacon of Rubirizi Archdeaconry; Rev. Can Nathan Tigakanya, the Archdeacon of Nyakyisoroza Archdeaconry; Rev. Adonia Kibagira, the Diocesan Fathers Union Coordinator; Rev. Can Joshua Bwebale from Kisiizi Hospital Chaplaincy; Rev. Charles Turyamureba from Bukyenkye Parish; and Rev. Yowasi Bazaara.

The official retirement announcement was made by Rev. Enock Karamuzi, the North Kigezi Diocesan Secretary, during the ceremony of the ordination of four ordinands at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano. The retirement was met with cheers and chants from the thousands of Christians present at the event, which was officiated by Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe.

Each retiring priest received a parcel of thanks from Rev. Karamuzi, expressing gratitude for their dedicated services to the diocese.

In response, Ven. Geoffrey Mutabazi, the archdeacon of Rubirizi Archdeaconry, conveyed thanks to God for mercy, provision, prayers, good health, protection, and goodness during their time as priests. The retiring priests pledged to continue serving God and uphold the spirit of revival in the diocese.

Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe commended the retired priests for their contributions to the ministry of God throughout their active priesthood. He clarified that the diocese council would convene in the coming days to assign new priests to fill the vacancies left by the retirees. These changes in church leadership aim to streamline church development and make room for new individuals.

Bishop Asiimwe urged the retiring clergy to view retirement not as a constraint but as a preparation for a new life outside active service. He encouraged them to be role models in their communities and to continue contributing to the development of the church.
