Traders at Kabale Central Market in Kabale Municipality were left in shock Thursday morning when an aborted dead body of a female infant, approximately 7 to 8 months old, was discovered in a dustbin bucket filled with used pads and Pampers inside the ladies toilets.
The shocking discovery of the dead infant has left the community in Kabale Central Market devastated, and the incident serves as a reminder of the need for increased awareness, vigilance, and measures to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone, especially the most vulnerable members of society.
Jolly Ninsiima, the toilet attendant at Females Toilet Block A, Fresh Food Dealers, reported that the infant was found by a cleaner during her routine cleaning. The incident has left traders bewildered, with many questioning who could have committed such a heinous act.
Charles Ngabirano, a cleaner, and Patience Kyatuha, a fresh food vendor, both working at Kabale Central, have urged the police to retrieve camera footage from the market premises to aid in identifying the suspect and ensuring they face punishment.
Ninsiima promptly took immediate action and notified the Kabale Central Police Station about the incident. The police swiftly responded, examined the scene, captured photographs, retrieved the body, and transferred it to the Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, expressed strong condemnation for the abhorrent act and informed the public that the police have initiated investigations to apprehend the suspect. Maate also emphasized the importance of girls practicing safe sex and using contraceptive methods to prevent unwanted pregnancies.
