Police in Sheema District are searching for a 25-year-old man suspected of murdering a 23-year-old farmer.
The incident occurred on June 19, 2024, around 4:00 AM at Kabusye cell, Kabusye ward, Masheruka town council in Sheema District.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the suspect as John Ngumaho, commonly known as Ngungu, a peasant residing in Kashunga North, Kabusye ward, Masheruka town council.
He further identified the deceased as 23-year-old Freedom Nyesiga, a farmer from the same area.
It is alleged that on the night of June 18, 2024, around 10:00 PM, the deceased and others went to Oxford Bar in Kanyeganyegye Trading Center, Masheruka, for a karaoke dance.
On their way home at around 4:00 AM on June 19, 2024, the deceased and the suspect quarreled, resulting in the suspect assaulting the victim to death.
Yorokamu Kataryeba, the 66-year-old chairperson of LC1 Kashunga North cell, Kabusye ward, Masheruka town council, reported that upon arriving at the scene, they found blood oozing from the deceased’s mouth and a head injury.
Tumusiime stated that the body has been taken to Kabwohe Health Centre IV for a postmortem, and inquiries into the matter are ongoing.
