The Sheema Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Dickson Kateshumbwa, has urged NRM delegates to support Rt. Hon. Anita Among to represent them on the Central Executive Committee (CEC), citing her outstanding leadership and dedication to protecting civilians.

He made the appeal on Thursday, 7th August 2025, during the Rukungiri District Delegates Conference held at Riverside Hotel in Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality. The conference was convened to plan for the upcoming National Delegates Conference and was also attended by Hon. Daniel Kimosho, the Member of Parliament for Kazo.

Hon. Kateshumbwa commended Anita Among for her notable achievements, including her role in the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, her close collaboration with President Museveni, effective mobilization, and efforts to weaken the opposition in Parliament. He encouraged delegates to vote for her to strengthen ties with the President and ensure improved service delivery.

Geoffrey Kyomukama, the LC5 Chairperson for Rukungiri, welcomed the guests to what he described as an NRM stronghold. He urged delegates to vote wisely, stating, “We found the NRM and we shall leave it; therefore, let us secure the future.”

Rugaba Akampa Tanibul, the NRM Coordinator for the Kigezi region and Chairman for Kebisoni Town Council, raised concerns over a proposed plan to scrap elections for the Central Executive Committee. He alleged that this plan would allow only a few individuals to vet candidates, thereby denying the majority a chance to elect quality leaders. He appealed to President Museveni to stop the proposed changes.

Emmy Turyabagyenyi, the Councilor for Persons with Disabilities in Rukungiri Municipality and a national aspirant for the Disability Chairperson position, emphasized the importance of National Delegates Elections. He urged his colleagues to resist attempts to abolish these elections so that all candidates can be heard and assessed based on their ideology.

Mackline Sabiiti, the District Woman Councilor for Buyanja Sub-County and Town Council, praised Rt. Hon. Anita Among for her exceptional leadership and called for her official visit to Rukungiri.

Tananzio Karuhura, the Councilor for Persons with Disabilities in Western Division, expressed concern over the unfair treatment of persons with disabilities during the previous CEC elections held in Kololo. He called for reforms to ensure fair participation in future elections.
