Residents of Rushasha in Nyakagyeme Sub County, Rukungiri district are reeling from the aftermath of a severe rainstorm that struck on Saturday, April 20th, 2024, leaving many homeless and causing extensive property damage valued in the millions.

Witnesses recount how the intense rain, accompanied by strong winds, ripped the roofs off houses and toppled trees, displacing numerous families and destroying their belongings.

The affected individuals are deeply concerned about the loss of their property and are appealing to disaster management authorities for urgent assistance to prevent further hardship.

Kazahuura Jim, Chairperson LC II of Rushasha parish, reported that the storm, which hit around 4 pm on Saturday, ravaged more than ten villages, impacting over 60 households. He emphasized the immediate need for relief aid and called upon local leaders, including the district disaster response team, members of parliament, and district officials, to extend support to the affected communities.

Bosco Bakatuura, a resident of Kyabugashe cell, expressed his distress as one of the victims who lost his home and belongings to the storm. He lamented the lack of shelter and food for his family, highlighting the urgent need for assistance.
