Bushenyi District registered a high number of school dropouts in the just concluded primary leaving examinations results released by UNEB.
The District registered 111 dropouts out of 5024 in 136 examination centers which constitute 2.2% compared to 1.9% in the previous year.
Williams Ahabwe the Bushenyi District inspector of schools says, the education department has instructed all the headteachers of the affected primary schools to establish the reasons for the dropouts
He said that though this sounds like a big number, the district also registered successful stories in education.
He said in some areas some of the reasons of school dropouts are early marriages, tea picking and gold mining, and pet business.
Ahabwe said the most affected sub-counties are Bitooma with 9, Ruhumuro with 14 Kakanju with 13, and Kiziinda Kigoma town council with 10 among others.
