It was a joyous occasion for Yakobo-Orikwera Buhangazi Church of Uganda in Nyabitete Archdeaconry, North Kigezi Diocese, as the parish received a new vehicle to support its ministry work.
Christians, clergy, and diocesan representatives gathered to witness the handover of the vehicle, a Toyota Noah (registration number UA232DA), which was purchased through contributions from members of the church.
The Head of Laity, Ben Tugume, said the vehicle is fully owned by the church and will remain parish property regardless of clergy transfers. He explained that it will ease transportation challenges and support the parish priest in carrying out pastoral duties more effectively.
Tugume also commended the parish priest, Rev. Sison Gumisiriza, for his development-oriented leadership. He noted that under his guidance, the church has initiated income-generating projects such as banana growing and piggery, helping the parish move toward self-sustainability.
Canon Sabiiti Mahirane, the former North Kigezi Diocesan Head of Laity who played a role in recommending the parish’s establishment in 2023, praised the church for its strong focus on development. He described it as one of the best-performing parishes in the diocese and said the new vehicle would further enhance ministry work.
Rev. Sison Gumisiriza welcomed the development, noting that limited transport has been a challenge in reaching some areas for pastoral activities. He expressed optimism that the new vehicle will improve mobility and enable timely service delivery to the congregation.
On behalf of the diocese, Rev. Niwagaba Julius Tengyeta, the North Kigezi Diocesan Missions Coordinator, applauded the parish for its unique approach to development. He encouraged Christians to continue supporting church initiatives and acknowledged the leadership of Bishop Onesmus Asiimwe for fostering an environment that enables clergy to serve effectively.
