Authorities at Rweshama Public Primary School in Bwambara Sub County, Rukungiri District, celebrated as they received 80 iron sheets to repair their leaking two-classroom block, putting pupils’ lives at risk.
The iron sheets were pledged by Rukungiri District Woman Legislator Hon. Medius Natukunda Kaharata and the Minister of Security Hon. Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi during a fundraising event held in early October.
The fundraising initiative aimed to gather funds for the renovation and rehabilitation of the dilapidated two-classroom blocks at Rweshama Public Primary School. Hon. Natukunda, represented by her Political Assistant Claire Ainembabazi, expressed her commitment to supporting various schools in the district while awaiting government intervention.
Simeo Kukudakwe, the Head Teacher of Rweshama Public Primary School, expressed gratitude for the timely delivery of the pledged iron sheets. He stated that they would immediately commence the renovation of the two-classroom block, aiming to complete it by the next term.
Local leaders, including Kenneth Niwagaba (LC2 Chairman of Rweshama Parish) and Muhammad Arineitwe (Chairperson of the School Management Committee), thanked their leaders for the support in renovating the school. Additionally, they urged authorities to consider addressing staffing issues and providing a center number for the school’s development.
Chris Kagayano, the Bwambara Sub County Chairperson, emphasized the need to recognize Bwambara Sub County as a hard-to-reach area, especially Rweshama Public Primary School. He highlighted challenges such as understaffing, with only five teachers catering to seven classes, and the absence of functional toilets, which are in a dilapidated state.
