Rwakirunguura Church of Uganda, located in Kyamakanda Archdeaconry, North Kigezi Diocese, has extended a gesture of kindness by donating food items and soap to widows in the parish as part of their Christmas package.
During the presentation of the items, which included rice and soap, the catechist of Rwakirunguura Church, Atwijukiire Humble, emphasized the church’s commitment to supporting widows. He stated that the church has designated specific days to teach widows how to cope with the challenges they face.
He explained that after recognizing the struggles these women endure, the church organized discussions to provide guidance on living fulfilling lives and decided to support them by donating essential items, especially during the festive season. Humble highlighted the church’s role in bringing widows together, empowering them, and offering assistance, particularly to those struggling to provide for their children after losing their husbands.
Mackline Sabiiti, the Mothers’ Union leader at Rwakirunguura Church and a councilor representing Buyanja Subcounty and Town Council, praised the initiative. She noted that it is a tradition of the church to assist widows, especially during Christmas, to bring them joy and remind them of Jesus’ love.
Sabiiti encouraged the widows to apply the lessons shared by their facilitator, including self-love, hard work, and prioritizing God in all aspects of their lives.
Ketty Muhwezi Ndindirwe, a retired Mothers’ Union coordinator and the day’s facilitator, said the widows were taught essential skills for managing their homes and improving their lives. She emphasized the importance of self-belief, serving as role models, and working hard to support their families.
She also urged the widows to care for their children, teach them basic work skills to keep them engaged, and protect them from negative peer influences that could lead them astray.
Several widows who received the items, including Aidah Tindimwebwa and Aska Bakutaana, expressed their gratitude to the church and Reverend Joseph Muhwezi for spearheading the initiative.
They shared their joy, stating that the support had given them renewed hope and a reason to celebrate the Christmas season.
