Today, during an engaging discussion on the Rukungiri Political Forum, I addressed the sticky and often emotive issue of the status of the Rukungiri Industrial Park in Bwambara.
I reminded members that one of the most important milestones has already been achieved: the gazettment of the Industrial Park, ahead of many other areas in Uganda. This was possible because Rukungiri leadership was steadfast in offering free land—something that many districts struggled to do. Our leaders did a commendable job in supporting the Uganda Investment Authority’s (UIA) efforts through the District Council and Cabinet processes.
Now, the Industrial Park is officially embedded in government development plans. A feasibility study has been completed. The next stages include:
- Finalizing the Master Plan
- Installing industrial-grade infrastructure (electricity, water, waste treatment, internet fiber)
- Plotting and coding the land
- Then finally, allocating land to investors to establish factories.
The dream of the Rukungiri Industrial Park in Bwambara becoming operational is well on track.
So, what’s next?
It is now the responsibility of the next Parliament to work hand in hand with the Executive to secure funding for actual implementation. This is a critical phase that requires consistent lobbying and teamwork across all political and administrative levels.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is fully committed to the implementation of this and other industrial parks across Uganda. In fact, in the case of Rukungiri, the President personally advised Steel and Tube Industries to establish a steel factory in Bwambara. Mr. Joseph Yiga, the Founder and CEO of the company, responded positively by sending a technical team to Bwambara. Soil tests were conducted, and the team held meetings with district leadership. These are solid steps toward real industrial transformation.
All these developments, once fully realized, will transform Rukungiri District and the greater southwestern Uganda region.
It was truly an honor to engage with thousands of people on this vital subject on the Rukungiri Political Forum.
