The Rukungiri district Senior Commercial Officer Atuhaire Caroline has urged members of Rukungiri Tree growers and Timber traders association to start bench marking highclass furniture if they are to get market for carpentry products.
This she was yesterday speaking at the Annual General Meeting for Rukungiri Tree growers and Timber traders cooperative society held at their Timber yard at Kagogo in Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality.
Atuhaire Caroline noted government collaborated with World Wide Fund for nature to establish a Timber yard at the cost of shillings 1 billion, intended to boost the quality of carpentry products
She said this was done with the aim of promoting indigenous products and reduce dependence on imports and therefore urged the carpenters of Rukungiri to take advantage of the Timber yard and dominate the market across the country.
The Chairperson of the Society Ntungura Gideon revealed that all the timber workshops are expected to shift to Kagogo and he appealed to them to join efforts in empowering their Timber yard for quality products and ready market.
The Rukungiri district forestry officer Arthur Twinomujuni confirmed that the funds provided by World Wide Fund for nature for timber yard construction and procuring machinery have been utilized with construction worth 200 million already completed and machinery worth 800million in transit
