Rukungiri district resident commissioner Stephen Nsubuga Bewayo has warned Sub County and town council administrations against licensing slot machines next year.

Earlier this year, the Rukungiri district security team headed by Nsubuga resolved to stop the operation of all slot machines in the district noting that they were increasing the rate of poverty and crime in the district but this was never implemented.

According to Nsubuga, after the district security team’s resolution, it was later discovered that all the slot machines in the district were licensed by Sub County and town council’s  to operate up to the end of this year which delayed the implementation of the decision.

Nsubuga says no sub-county or town council should license slot machines beginning next year because they will impound and destroy any slot machine they will find operating

He said the slot machines are causing people to steal from residents  in order to play them.
