The territorial police in Rukungiri are searching for unknown suspects believed to be responsible for the alleged murder of Andrew Twijukye, a 32-year-old casual laborer from Kakoma Cell, Burombe Parish, Ruhinda Sub-county, Rukungiri District.
According to reports, Twijukye and Akampulira Godwin, also known as God, were guarding road construction materials at Kakoma Trading Centre on May 24, 2024. On May 25, 2024, around 8:00 AM, both were paid twenty thousand shillings (20,000) each. They went to a bar within Kakoma Trading Centre and started drinking around 5:00 PM. Akampurira Godwin left the bar, leaving Twijukye still drinking.
Twijukye did not return home until May 31, 2024, around 8:00 AM. His mother, Komwaro Rosette, informed his paternal uncle, Nyangira David, who reported the disappearance to Ruhinda Police Station. The police advised them to make radio announcements and continue searching for Twijukye.
On May 31, 2024, around 5:00 PM, Nyangira David discovered Twijukye’s body in a bushy area of Rwamagaya Catholic Church farm and notified the police.
The crime scene was examined and documented, and the body was taken to Rwakabengo HC3 mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Anyone with information that could help the police apprehend the perpetrators is encouraged to come forward. Investigations are ongoing.
